It is the case that in my current phase of life I have opted for a more low key approach to weekends over my previous style of being a sleep-deprived socialite. That being said I’m not about to abandon all items in my closet that would usually be appropriate for the later. Instead, I simply dress them down and take them out for brunch.

This is an easy one – it’s all about shoe choice and accessories. I’ve rambled on many times before about clashing styles to achieve balance in an outfit and it’s as true for dressing things down as it is for androgyny or irony.

It’s all about incorporating casual elements, and like always, keeping it simple. Leather ankle boots, sneakers and slides – these are my best allies for pairing back a dress. I also opt for a cross body bag and something that’s patently “day wear” such as a hat or these oversized readers.

If you keep it looking ‘effortless’ you can easily blur the lines between day and night, and maximise the wear you get out of your dressier pieces.
